Broward County Commissioner Hazelle Rogers will mark an extraordinary milestone—30 years of distinguished public service—with a full-day Community Celebration Tour across five cities in her district on Wednesday, March 12.
“For 30 years, serving our communities has been both an honor and a responsibility,” said Commissioner Rogers. “This celebration is not only about reflecting on the past, but about continuing the work that strengthens our cities, county, state, and nation—uplifting our people for generations to come.”
Commissioner Rogers made history as the first Jamaican elected official in the Southeastern United States in 1996, paving the way for greater representation and leadership within the region’s diverse communities.
Her three-decade career reflects a steady rise in leadership and impact. Rogers was first elected as Commissioner of Lauderdale Lakes in 1996, where she served for 12 years before being elected to the Florida State House in 2008, then became Mayor of Lauderdale Lakes, and was elected as Broward County Commissioner for District 9 in 2022. Throughout each role, she has remained a steadfast advocate for economic development, community empowerment, and cultural inclusion.
Community Celebration Tour
The milestone celebration will spotlight the communities and small businesses that have been central to her leadership journey.
Throughout the day, Commissioner Rogers will visit restaurants in Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Oakland Park, Plantation, and Sunrise. At each stop, she will be greeted by city officials, community leaders, and residents.
The tour begins at Spoons Restaurant in Lauderdale Lakes at 8:00 a.m.—a fitting starting point, as the establishment is also celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking a shared legacy of service and entrepreneurship.
Additional stops will showcase the district’s rich culinary diversity, featuring African American, Jamaican, Haitian, Trinidadian, Latin, and other Caribbean cuisines. A surprise stop is also planned between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
The day’s events will conclude with an invitation-only evening reception at Donna’s Restaurant in Lauderhill at 6:00 p.m.
Supporting the Community
In recognition of this milestone, Commissioner Rogers is encouraging residents to support charitable causes close to her heart. A donation sign with a QR code will be available at each tour stop, allowing attendees to contribute directly to selected nonprofit organizations.
