Sizzla Kalonji, the iconic reggae and dancehall artist, was celebrated in a grand tribute on Thursday, April 10, at LUME Bistro and Lounge in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Consul General Oliver Mair honored Sizzla with a proclamation marking his 30 years of impactful contributions to music and culture.
Themed “Kalonji Konversations,” the event brought together an illustrious gathering, including Commissioners Carson “Eddy” Edwards and Avril Cherasard of Miramar, Mayor Denise Grant of Lauderhill, and media figures like Pat Montague, Papa Keith, and Mikey Mike. Reggae stalwarts such as the Marley Brothers, Anthony B, and DJ Tony Matterhorn joined the celebration, reflecting Sizzla’s vast influence. DJ Jazzy T enhanced the ambiance with a curated set of Sizzla classics, evoking nostalgia and appreciation.
In a captivating Q&A session hosted by Tamiann Johnson, Sizzla shared a deeper glimpse into his life. He revealed his roots in automobile repair, a trade passed down from his father, who owned a garage. He recounted his love for music and the serendipitous journey that led him to work with legendary producer Fattis Burrell, the creative force behind some of his timeless hits.
