Lauderhill, FL — The Lauderhill Performing Arts Center will come alive on September 7th and 8th as the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council presents Ring Ding & Ting, a cultural extravaganza celebrating the 105th birthday of Jamaica’s beloved cultural icon, Miss Lou. Among the featured acts is the renowned Braata Singers, recognized as one of the foremost authorities on Jamaican and Caribbean folk music performance in the United States.

Founded by Jamaican-born actor, singer, and producer Andrew Clarke, Braata Singers have garnered accolades for their unique and dynamic presentations of Caribbean folk music. The group, known for its “choral theater” style, seamlessly blends choral arrangements with drama, choreography, and vibrant costumes. Their performances celebrate the rich tapestry of Caribbean folk traditions, bringing forms like Mento, Kumina, Dinki-Mini, Revival, Ring Games, and Nine Night to the stage.

Braata Singers have performed on prestigious stages worldwide, earning a reputation as cultural ambassadors of the Caribbean. Most recently they performed in an Off-Broadway production to rave reviews. Their participation in Ring Ding & Ting will honor Miss Lou’s legacy and showcase the enduring power of Jamaican and Caribbean culture. Talented musicians Sons of Mystro, Definitive Arts Dancers, a dance company comprising talented young adults and adolescents will present Jamaican dances over the years, as well as the Jamaican Folk Revue, and Tallawah Mento Band will also take the stage. Musicologist Eugene Grey and his band will round out the evening with sizzling Jamaican standards, all expertly hosted by Blakka Ellis and Fae Ellington.
