Lauderhill, FL – September 28, 2023 – The United Nations Association of Broward County Chapter (UNA Broward) proudly announces that Commissioner Denise D. Grant, a distinguished leader in the community, has been honored with the prestigious Sustainable Development Goals Leaders Award. This esteemed accolade celebrates the remarkable achievements of 17 individuals whose tireless efforts continue to advance each of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Sustainable Development Goals, encompassing a broad spectrum of global challenges, include eradicating poverty in all its forms, ending hunger, ensuring access to quality healthcare for all age groups, fostering inclusive and equitable education, striving for gender equality, and taking urgent actions to combat climate change, among others. Commissioner Grant’s unwavering dedication and impactful initiatives have significantly contributed to the realization of these goals within Broward County.
The momentous award presentation took place on September 28 during the Annual Sustainable Development Goals Leaders Award luncheon, held at the City of Tamarac Community Center. This event served as a gathering of influential community leaders, activists, and organizations committed to sustainable development and positive change.
Established in 1985, UNA Broward operates as a community-based chapter of the renowned United Nations Foundation. The association aims to promote the principles and values of the United Nations, working collaboratively to address global challenges at the local level.
Commissioner Denise D. Grant was specifically recognized for her outstanding contributions towards the advancement of the United Nations’ Goal #8, Decent Work & Economic Growth. This pivotal goal focuses on the development of resilient infrastructure, the promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and the fostering of innovation. Commissioner Grant’s visionary leadership, strategic initiatives, and unwavering commitment have played a pivotal role in enhancing economic opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, and driving sustainable growth within Broward County. Grant serves on the National League of Cities’ Human Development Board and is noted for the advancement of unity and bridge building initiative, Unity in the Community.
