The Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council proudly presents the return of “Therapeutics: The Pen, The Journal, The Brush II,” a highly anticipated three-part workshop offering a unique opportunity for participants to explore song writing, journaling, and painting. This creative and therapeutic event will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 11 AM to 4 PM at the South Regional Broward College Library, Pembroke Pines, Florida.

The songwriting session will be led by renowned musician and composer Wayne Armond, a founding member of the legendary reggae band Chalice. With decades of experience, Wayne has written hits for top artists like Richie Spice, Rita Marley, and Marcia Griffiths. His workshop will focus on songwriting as a form of therapy, demonstrating how to complement lyrics with music.

For art enthusiasts, Colin Smith, an acclaimed Caribbean artist and musician, will lead the session on “Using Art as Therapeutics.” Colin’s love for the Caribbean landscape and culture is vividly reflected in his paintings. With years of exhibition experience in Jamaica and South Florida, Colin will guide participants in expressing themselves through the visual arts.

Maxine Plummer, a seasoned educator with extensive experience in cultural development and film production, will conduct a one-hour session on “Journaling for Therapy.” Maxine’s background in teaching and her experience as a casting director for Disney’s “Cool Runnings” bring a unique perspective to this therapeutic journaling session.

After the overwhelming success of the inaugural workshop in 2022, the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council is excited to offer this transformative experience once again. This free community event is made possible with support from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the Broward Cultural Council.
