Lauderhill, FL – Following the success of the pantomime “Ole Time Sinting,” the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council is excited to present “Ring Ding & Ting” on September 7 & 8 at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. This event is a vibrant spin-off from the beloved television program “Ring Ding,” which showcased Jamaica’s folk culture under the charismatic guidance of Miss Lou.

Children will bring the stage to life with song, dance, and poetry, echoing the high-energy performances that captivated audiences on JBC television from 1968 to 1980. “Ring Ding & Ting” will feature an impressive lineup, including comedian Ity, poet Malachi Smith as Anancy, Dr. Sue as Auntie Roachie, and Sophia Nicholson bringing the latest “Labrish”. Musicologist Eugene Grey and his band will present sizzling Jamaican standards and talented musicians Sons of Mystro, Dillard Dancers, Jamaican Folk Revue and the Tallawah Mento Band.

Sons of Mystro

The Braata Folk Singers, fresh off their Off-Broadway success will perform an array of unique and dynamic presentations of Caribbean folk music, combining inspired choral arrangements with drama, intricate choreography, design elements and eye-catching costumes.  Hosts for the event will be the multi-talented comedian and actor Blakka Ellis along with popular radio and television broadcaster Fae Ellington.

Susan Davis, President of the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council emphasizes the significance of the event: “Celebrating Miss Lou’s 105th birthday with ‘Ring Ding & Ting’ is not just a tribute to her legacy but a celebration of our rich Jamaican culture. This show brings together generations and keeps the spirit and teachings of Miss Lou alive for future generations.”

Celebrate Miss Lou’s 105th birthday and her legacy as a Jamaican poet, folklorist, and educator who championed the use of Jamaican Patois in literary expression. One of Miss Lou’s well-known descriptions of Jamaica is ” We likkle but we tallawah.” This bit of truism is reflected in the supersized cultural imprint of the island, which contrasts sharply with its size.

Tickets are available at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Box Office or online at louisebennettheritage.com, with group discounts for non-profits, churches, and civic organizations.

Ring Ding & Ting is presented by the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council, in partnership with the City of Lauderhill with support from the Broward County Cultural Division, the Cultural Council, and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.

This event promises to be a boonoonoonos show you won’t want to miss!
