In recognition of Jamaica’s 57th anniversary of Independence, the Consulate General of Jamaica in Miami will hold the annual Ecumenical Service of Thanksgiving on Sunday, August 4th at 4:00 p.m. The Service will be held at The Faith Center, located at 5555 NW 95th Avenue, FL 33351
The National theme for this year’s Independence celebration is titled “One Nation, One People”.
This year’s sermon will be delivered by the Reverend Donald Lawrence, Senior Pastor, Parkway Baptist Church located in Miami Gardens. The officiating clergy will be Pastor Dr. Wesley Green of Christway Baptist Church in Miramar.
As tradition, the Service will feature the official message from the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, ON, MP. The Order of Service will also include several recitals from local performers including the South Florida Caribbean Chorale, directed by Steve Higgins, the Tallawah Mento Band, directed by Mr. Colin Smith, the Jamaica Folk Revue and the Sierra Norwood Youth Voice Ensemble under the leadership of Ms. Jennifer Grant.
Consul General Oliver Mair readily welcomes nationals and friends of the Diaspora in celebration of Jamaica’s achievements as an independent nation. He also expressed appreciation for the continued contributions and support from the Jamaican communities across the Diaspora to their homeland, and reiterated Government’s commitment and ongoing engagement with the Diaspora at all levels.
