What’s Your Story Jamaica Brings True Stories Straight From Yaad to the Victory Theater

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Jamaica has always been a nation of storytellers. On September 12 and 13, South Florida audiences will get the chance to hear some of those extraordinary stories when What’s Your Story Jamaica comes to the intimate, 130-seat Victory Theater in Fort Lauderdale.

Created and produced by award-winning Jamaican playwright and storyteller Debra Ehrhardt, who has performed her acclaimed autobiographical works on stages around the world, What’s Your Story Jamaica grew out of Ehrhardt’s belief in the extraordinary power of ordinary people telling their own true stories. The Fort Lauderdale engagement is presented by Debra Ehrhardt and Riddims Marketing.

The special two-performance event will showcase the unforgettable storytellers from the 2026 What’s Your Story Jamaica competition on video — while two finalists, Marlon Thompson and Jerry King-Johnson, will travel from Kingston, Jamaica, to tell their stories LIVE on stage.

And this is no ordinary storytelling competition.

What’s Your Story Jamaica is the only million-dollar storytelling competition in the world, with its semi-finalists and finalists sharing J$1 million in prize money.

The concept is beautifully simple: Tell one true story from your life in just 6–7 minutes.

No elaborate sets. No special effects. No characters to hide behind.

Just one person, one stage and one unforgettable Jamaican story.

The result is funny, surprising, moving and sometimes downright unbelievable — an intimate glimpse into Jamaica through the eyes of the people who actually live there.

This year’s finalists performed before a sold-out audience at Spanish Court in Kingston, sharing stories that ranged from laugh-out-loud hilarious to deeply moving. Now South Florida audiences will experience that same spirit of authentic Jamaican storytelling, straight from yaad.

“There is so much more to Jamaica than what visitors see when they come on vacation,” says Ehrhardt. “Our greatest treasure is our people and the stories we carry. These stories are funny, surprising, touching and sometimes unbelievable — but they are always authentic. What’s Your Story Jamaica gives ordinary Jamaicans a stage to tell extraordinary stories in their own voices and in their own way.”

MORE THAN A NIGHT OF STORYTELLING

Adding another splash of Jamaican creativity to the celebration will be a special fashion presentation featuring Spunk Design by Denise Katz, bringing color, style and Caribbean flair to an evening already bursting with Jamaican personality.

Audiences can expect stories of childhood, family, love, heartbreak, triumph, culture and the unforgettable experiences that shape who we are.

Two performances. True stories. One unforgettable Jamaican experience.
